Commanders Coach Accepts Blame for Leaving Jayden Daniels in Game Before Serious Injury

Washington Commanders leader Dan Quinn has admitted he bears a portion of the blame for a major injury to the team’s quarterback, Jayden Daniels.

Details of the Injury and Situation

Jayden Daniels, who had one of the greatest first-year performances in history last season, suffered a dislocated left elbow in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Although the quarterback passes with his right arm, the injury has left his campaign uncertain. The injury was serious enough that the television broadcast did not show repeats and multiple athletes looked away as he was treated by medical staff.

Criticism and Leader’s Response

Quinn came under criticism as many believed Daniels should not have been on the field in the first place. The incident happened in the fourth quarter with the Commanders trailing 38-7, making a recovery unlikely. It is common in these circumstances for teams to insert their reserve QB to avoid injuries to their starter.

“I understand. I’ve been reflecting about it nonstop, too, and, man, I missed it,” he said of his choice to keep Daniels in the game. “That is 100% on me.”

Aftermath and Squad Prospects

Marcus Mariota will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback from now on, but he will guide a roster in turmoil. Following reaching the conference title game last season behind the rookie’s brilliance, the franchise have struggled currently. They additionally saw injuries to cornerback Lattimore (ACL tear) and wide receiver McCaffrey (broken collarbone) on Sunday, and have a host of other starters on injured reserve. The Commanders are three wins and six losses on the season, and it would take a massive turnaround for the team to make the playoffs.
